Not at Work

I shouldn’t have to listen to a person at work

Saying that we should send them back where they came from

She was talking about Mexicans

The problem is that she is just listening to what someone else told her

She has done no research

she doesn’t know any facts

she doesn’t even understand

that all Hispanic people didn’t cross the river to get here

I asked her where her ancestors came from

She said they have always been here

I told her my ancestors were Blackfoot, Cherokee and some other mix

that had come through Ellis Island

I also told her that her ancestors more than likely

Had come to America on a boat too

I suggested that maybe she should go back where she came from

All of this is irrelevant

The only thing that is important is that

Nobody should have to listen to racist shit at work

The thing that will end up happening is that I will eventually get tired of it

And find another job

And she will continue being a janitor

At a place that I loved to work
