Mommy Wasn't There
Mommy Wasn’t There
Children wake to the sounds of their own screams
as the glistening fangs of monsters
rip the flesh from their bones
reality comes to them
as consciousness returns
cries for mommy
go unheard
the night-light doesn't help
afraid to move
afraid to stay
with covers over heads
the call goes out to mommy
its unheard once again
children learn
to help themselves
when mommies not around
which seems to happen more and more
when the dealer mans in town
