DoogieMandy Goulash


2.5  - pounds Ground Beef – the leaner the better

¾     - cups chopped sweet onion

3     - cups water

3     - cans of Best Choice Diced Tomatoes (14.5 oz ea)

1      - can Always Save Tomato Sauce (15 oz)

2     - cups Martha Gooch Big elbow macaroni (comes in 24oz bag)

2      - Tbs - Ground sea salt

1     - Tbs – Fresh Ground Pepper

1     - Tbs Garlic Powder

1     - Tbs Paprika

1pkg - Always save Chili Seasoning (1.25 oz)

¼ cup - chopped sweet onion for each person

¼ cup – good quality Shredded Mozzarella or Swiss cheese for each person

 

Directions

In Iron Skillet

·         Brown and drain ground beef


In glass mixing bowl

·         Combine powdered ingredients and mix well

·         Pour water into mixing bowl and stir well


In Iron Skillet

·         Pour water and seasoning in with ground beef, stir well

·         Pour ¾ chopped onions into frying pan

·         Simmer on medium heat for 15 minutes


In crock pot

·         Pour diced tomatoes into crock pot

·         Pour tomato sauce into crock pot

·         Mix well and turn on high while the beef and seasoning mixture simmers

 



After Meat and seasonings have cooked

In Crockpot


·         Pour contents of Iron Skillet into crock pot

·         Cook on high for 1 hour – OR – let simmer on medium while you’re at work all day

 

When your ready to eat

 

In a sauce pan

·         Boil Macaroni until tender (do not overcook it isn’t supposed to be mushy)

·         Drain Macaroni

In individual Bowls

·         Measure out 1 cup of macaroni – place in each bowl

·         Measure out 1 cup of contents of Crockpot – place in each bowl

·         Gently mix the contents of the bowl (being careful not to mash the noodles)

·         Sprinkle ¼ cup of chopped onions on the top (do not stir)

·         Sprinkle ¼ cup shredded cheese on top (do not stir)

 

 

Serve with one of the following

 

Fresh baked bread (still warm from the oven)

Homemade Garlic Bread

Texas Toast with garlic and melted cheese

Fresh made cornbread or Johnny Cake

 

 

Optional method

 

Before you brown the ground beef

·         Fry 3 strips of greasy bacon very crispy (needs to be able to be crumbled)

·         Crumble bacon

·         Pour crumbled bacon and grease into the iron skillet and brown the ground beef in with it.

 



the rest of the contents of the crock pot can be frozen or canned using a pressure caner. You can, can it in individual serving sizes so you only have to boil noodles to have goulash anytime.
