An old memory came to me today

An old memory came to me today

I just saw a picture of an old broken grave stone that took me back to a night of fear, danger and a loaded gun.  I don’t remember the guys name but he was the son of my first wife’s mother’s friend.

He held my friend Chad and I at gunpoint. He was drunk out of his mind and he drove all over Northwestern Ohio. He was so drunk that we slid toward the on ramp or the off ramp, I don’t remember which. Somehow we missed the guardrail and slid down some hill.  It’s all blurry but I know I was scared; I just wanted to get the gun away from him and shoot him in the face.

He took us to some really old cemetery and made us go to the back of it. I thought he was going to kill us back there. He started breaking the thin headstones, they were really old. Chad and I picked some up and sat them where they were supposed to go but he threatened to shoot us if we sat another one up.

After that he ordered us back to the car and then drove us to Morenci. Then he let us go. I found out later that the gun would only misfire and we were never in danger of being shot. The real danger came from the guys drunk driving.
