Takin Care of Business

.. ..

Things Change

Friends move on

People come and go,

They pass through your life much like seasons,

Sometimes as unnoticed as a minute ticked away by an overzealous clock.

With some of them,

There will always be a faint memory, almost as if their image was burnt into your soul.

Such is the case here.

I haven't felt like this since the Marine Corps.

There are three people here that caused me to drop my guard.

.. ..

We have a guy here named Doug.

 He too is from Michigan.

He is a police officer,

He is arrogant,

Tough

Highly energetic

And easily excitable.

and he takes things too far when it comes to getting his point across as a policeman.

Doug took over the security situation.

I handed him hundreds of dollars,

No question.

There was a trust like I had with my marine buddies.

I didn't even feel the need to count it.

.. .... ..

.. ..

Keith, a former marine sniper worked security here for a while.

There was an instant connection there.

like most marines will tell you,

when they meet another marine,

a real marine,

one that truly felt it in his heart,

I would have stepped in front of him and taken a bullet without question,

Why is that you ask,

I don't know.

His girlfriend and their kids instantly became my family.

I would have killed anybody that tried to hurt one of them.

Still I can't explain it.

I don't expect that I'll ever be able to.

I may never see him again,

But he is my brother and he will always walk with me

on some battlefield in the recesses of my mind.

.. ..

There is a young guy that goes by Cam.

He worked with the GBI.

The Georgia bureau of Investigation.

I had no fear of sleeping when he was here,

His 40 cal hand gun was drawn and held out of sight

As soon as anybody approached.

He was dedicated,

Diligent,

And he played his roll well.

There was a 350 pound drunk shirtless guy that came in

and started badmouthing him for carrying a gun.

Cam stood his ground,

Hand on weapon,

Ready to strike,

If the need arose.

He wasn't overbearing,

Pushy,

Or arrogant.

He was just taking care of business.

.. ..

When your really part of a true team that's the way it works.

They have your back, no questions.

There is a relaxation that takes place.

It is kind of the way marriage is supposed to be.

There is somebody that you can rely on and when it

Works right you can just relax and believe that they will do their part

This makes it so you can do your job and be the best at it.

I think that is the thing that I miss most about the marines.

.. ..

.. ..

Brotherhood in the concrete jungle,

The Ghetto infantry,

An island of brothers standing back to back,

Stopping the bad guys,

And doing their job.

.. ..

Just Takin care of business

.. ..

.. ..
