Macon teen stabbed while trying to steal fireworks

By Amy Leigh Womack - awomack@macon.com

A 14-year-old boy was stabbed in the buttocks early Monday morning after he and three others attempted to break into a fireworks tent near the intersection of Pio Nono Avenue and Eisenhower Parkway, according to Macon police.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Melanie Hofmann said the fireworks tent owner, Douglas Face, was taking a nap underneath the tent when the three teenage boys and a man allegedly tried to break in just after 2 a.m.

She said Face threw a knife in the direction of where the boys and man were entering the tent.

The knife stabbed the 14-year-old in the buttocks, according to a Macon police report. He was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia, but was not listed as a patient there Monday afternoon.

Officers arrested the man, 23-year-old Larry Frye of Mason Street, on an outstanding state court bench warrant for a traffic violation, Hofmann said. Police are still looking for the other two teenage boys. The case remains under investigation.

Good Knife Throw, I'll bet the boy will remember this a lot longer than just detention, or a time out. It's a shame the man did not have four knives. KB Kathleen

Too bad the man's aid wasn't better and hit somewhere better than in the buttocks... but then anyone who steals from someone else doesn't have a heart to stab anyway!

I really hope the young man has learned to stay away from people like this 23 year old larry frye guy. I hope Douglas is safe, he is my son. If ask he would help anyone. He's a very good person.

The kid definitely has a PITA now instead of just being one.

What were kids of this age out that late anyways and also why were they with a 23 year old? Isn't there a curfew for kids at a certain age?

Seems that majority of Macon's crimes happen after 11pm. Maybe Macon should issue a curfew for everyone in Macon until the violence calms down! Maybe these criminals will get on a better sleep cycle and sleep all night and work all day instead!

This goes back to....like the girl, 15 yrs. old out in the wee hours of the night. Where are the parents & why are these kids allowed to even be out @ these times of night wandering & hanging around others so much older than they are? These kids definitely need better guidance & stricter rules than those they currently have & tend to be disobeying. The rest of their summer should be spent @ the youth detentional center, then they'll appreciate a such thing called, CURFEW.

Every neighborhood should have @ least one patrol car patroling nightly & if anyone under the age of 21 is wandering the streets should be cited & if they are 21 & over, not a resident of the neighborhood & they are wanderng & look suspicious, should be arrested.

Like I said before, apparently Macon hasn't grasped the concept of the Big Brother Program.

Big Brother Program? Seriously? Do you people think or just type away while images of stuffed animals and balloons float in your heads. MPD needs to focus more on real crime and less on meaningless patrols and traffic stops searching for "suspicious" individuals to bring in and squeeze fines and probation costs out of.

Does a thrown knife count as a stab?

I wonder if the boys ever knew their fathers...TABLE>
