Every time I find myself dreaming,

Every time I find myself dreaming, my pillow wakes up and roles over.

My alarm clock giggles every few minutes

The hour before it’s set to go off.

My toaster makes waffles all on its own

As the knife spreads peanut butter and jelly

On their toasty waffle goodness

Eggs fry themselves in the iron skillet

While the bacon bubbles and splatters

Throwing grease with every pop

Plates dance their way to the breakfast table

While spoons doe see doe

And the forks sit by the wall

Their shyness

An obstacle, too big to overcome.

English muffins butter themselves

they sigh lustfully

as the butter melts into their crannies.

Feeling content in their fullness.

Daylight dreams

Of bodies intertwined

Fill my nights

With needs

Unfulfilled.

Opportunities

Though unwise

Play themselves out

One lustful encounter at a time

Regret

Long since lost its meaning

Survival takes the place of morality.

Sing to me my princess

Even if you aren’t real

Because I need the hope that promise gives.

I roll back over

Knowing full well

It’s all a dream

But I keep the memories anyway

They are mine

I paid for them with many lonely hours

Receipt

Tucked deeply into my pocket

In case of accusations

By those that are afraid to dream their own dreams.
