HARPS - What is it and why is it so misunderstood

HARPS

What is it and why is it so misunderstood

There are conspiracy theories all over the net about the HARPS machine. Here is the official explanation.

Many people believe that this machine was designed as a weapon that can create vibrations in the earth that cause earthquakes in enemy countries. Most of us know that many conspiracy theories have at least a tiny bit about them that were based in fact. Many of these facts have been twisted and manipulated either by ignorance or paranoia. Some of these theories may have had outrageously ridiculous parts added to them as a form of misdirection by people trying to keep something secret. Whatever the reason behind the deviation from reality, most of the theories had at least some part that was interesting enough to someone, that they felt the need to tell others about it.

I read the official description of HARPS.  I can’t seem to connect anything with this system that is weapon like but going with the belief that most conspiracy theories have at least the tiniest inkling of fact somewhere inside of them, I want to pose a question to you.

We have all heard the theory that an asteroid hit earth and killed the dinosaurs. Most of us have seen pictures of craters in the moon and some of us remember when the planet Jupiter was hit. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6AIt36-whc )

We have an asteroid heading in our general direction right now. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaqiwY5qToA)

here is a better explanation of this asteroid.

Here is my question. Do you think that it is possible that HARPS was designed to cause vibrations like the conspiracy theories suggest, but not for creating Earthquakes? Is it possible that its intended use was to use  vibrations to break up objects in space that are moving toward the Earth?

This would explain where the vibration causing frequencies theory was misinterpreted.

The secrecy surrounding the possible real function of HARPS would be valid. Most people would have a hard time living their lives if they knew just how easy it would be for an extraterrestrial object to destroy all life on Earth. Keeping that fact secret would be for the good of mankind.

HARPS might be just a type of telescope that was designed to find new planets but its original purpose could have been to detect objects on a collision course with Earth.

I can’t tell you whether HARPS is a weapon, a scientific tool, or an asteroid smashing planetary protection devise but I think that the theories surrounding its intended function would make a good psychological study. I would like to truly understand how the human mind comes to the conclusions that it does about things.
