The Chick and the Teddybear

Last night when Mandy got home

we were getting ready for bed

she checked on our chicks.

We had two babies,

one had died.

I kind of expected it because it took two days

for it to get out of the shell.

The one had been in the cage for two days all alone before his brother hatched.

After his brother arrived he calmed down a bit

When his brother died he was alone again.

We felt bad because he was all alone

and he was too small to put in with the bigger chicks

after his brother arrived it was nice

because he didn’t have to be alone.

When Mandy took the dead chick out of the cage

The first chick started peeping real loud

He kept it up for about an hour

He was still too small to go with the next size birds

as I lay in bed trying to figure out what to do

I thought about what we would do if it were a child

I got up and looked around

I found a miniature teddy bear that was in a coffee cup that Mandy had gotten me

I put it in the cage with the baby chick

It quieted down instantly

Then as we were laying there trying to sleep

We heard little peeps

They were low, almost inaudible

It was as though the chick were trying to talk to the teddy bear

He is still quiet this morning

He just didn’t want to be alone.

Nobody wants to be alone

Especially after they find out what alone really is.

The little chick knew he was lonely before his brother hatched

But He wasn’t able to comprehend the true meaning of “Alone”

until he experienced what it was like to “Not” be alone

after his brother died

he was fully aware of other possibilities that he hadn’t been aware of before.

That is when the true meaning of “Alone” crept in to his little mind

And it became unbearable

One little teddybear

Helped to ease his little birdie mind.
