Spousal Abuse
Spousal Abuse – What it’s really like to Watch Someone That You Love Get Beat
I can tell you what it’s like to watch your mother get beat, Imagine that you’re sitting there watching your child out the window, He or she is standing behind a truck. You know that the driver doesn’t see them. The truck slowly backs up. You watch in complete helplessness as your child slowly gets crushed beneath the wheels. No matter how many times you scream or how many phone calls that you make, there is nothing that you can do to stop it, and there is nobody that will help.
As a child, helplessness engulfs you as you watch someone you love get hurt. Tears stream down your face, the memories of it dig deeply into your soul, scaring you forever. Knowing that there isn’t anybody that will help brings a feeling of complete isolation from the world. The promises of “That is the last time, it will never happen again” harden your little heart into a stone. You learn that police won’t help as you become even more alone in the world. Nobody can help, nobody, you’re on your own, even your own parent won’t get you out of there because they are too wrapped up in themselves to see what it’s doing to you.
That just scratches the surface but that’s what it’s like to grow up in a hitting home.
