The memories of David

The memories of David

(This is a work of fiction It is a work in progress)

The floor was red

Red and black seemed to be the only acceptable pattern

There was a strange half hourglass pattern on the tiles

The couch and the chairs were black vinyl

There were several junkies in the living room

But David didn’t notice them

He was watching the Mickey Mouse club

The bad men burst in

There were 2 of them

The chrome of the gun shone like the morning sun

It lit up the room

There was a blackness in the light

Even as young as David was

He knew that the blackness was where the death came from

A weight

A heavy weight squashed David

It hurt

God, it hurt

What was it

David saw

It was his mother

She had thrown herself on him

David looked at the men

But he didn’t see them

All he saw was the death

Surrounded by the brilliant glare of the chrome

David turned his head

He watched the mouseketeersThey went on

As if death weren’t stalking them

Not happening

Not happening

Annette

Dance

Tell the musketeers to dance

Please Annette

Play a game

Anything

Make the bad go away

David looked back at the death

It was aimed right at him

He looked into the black that surrounded the shiny brilliance

He fell in to it

David lost himself that day

Its like that black death sucked the good

and happy things out of his soul

Many years have passed

David is grown

But he isn’t like regular people

He doesn’t understand them

They don’t like him

Sometimes David’s memories come back to him

He feels himself falling into that death

The shiny brilliance hurting his eyes as he’s sucked in.

No matter what he does

He will never be normal

He’ll never fit in

He’ll never belong

Life gets real heavy sometimes

He’s married to Mindy now

She has two great kids

He thought once his daughter was grown

That he’d get to move on

He thought that he’d look in to the black death and fall in to it

But Mindy is here now

She deserves to have good things

She needs him

He is here for a whole lot of years now

Its ok

Because he loves Mindy

But each day he thinks about that blackness

The comfort that it held for him

David has accepted his new role

But it is so hard

There is so much hatred among humans

They do everything that they can to hurt each other

David understands commitment

He is here for the long haul

But when the time comes

He will embrace that darkness that men call death

He will embrace it with everything inside of him

Until then

He will love Mindy, her children and his own daughter Ember

But secretly

He will be waiting patiently

For the comfort of the long sleep.
