The Lament of David
The Lament of David
(A work in progress)
Oh God, no, please no
The message repeated over and over in David’s head
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry
I don’t know what I’ve done
Oh God, I’m sorry
David knew that it didn’t matter
He had been here for eons
Every time that he realized where he was
He was allowed to understand it for a few months
The knowledge would come and go
Several times a day
When it got too much
When the concept was overwhelming
When it took him to the brink of insanity
It was taken away
The tormentor knew that the punishment
would do no good
if David’s mind were broken
This went on for what registered in David’s mind
As years before it was taken
And it all started again
David was allowed to build his home-life
the way that he wanted it
he was allowed to love
to go to college
to have a normal life
but inside
David knew
That if life got too good
He wouldn’t be allowed to keep it
This morning
David’s dream-self woke him
He called this dream-self Doug
Doug woke him
He was filled with horrible dread
Oh God, no, please no
David knew that it was almost over again
He had gotten too comfortable
He had started to really love his life
With that being the case
Those in control wouldn’t let it go on for long
It would be taken from him
This was Hell after all
David had been here for eons
He would be here forever
A lake of fire would have been a vacation next to this
Loving and losing over and over
Over and over
This time would be the hardest
He loved this one more than he had ever loved anyone
Ever
David had let the idea of his mother and father go centuries ago
Sometimes he got a call from
“His mother”
But David knew in his heart
That she had died so long ago
And the memories were all fabricated now
The tormentor gave him memories
So he would have something else to lose
The Mother dream was just one of many
That David no longer believed.
This morning David understood
That his new wife
And his new family
would be taken away from him soon
The tormentor dangled his daughter in front of him
Over and over
He learned long ago
That she wasn’t real either
She was just something that the tormentor would use to hurt David by taking it away as soon as he started to believe it was all real.
David always hesitated to believe that the ones he loved were real
In doing so
He prolonged his time with them
The last thing that went through David’s mind before he passed out was “I don’t know what I did to get here but I think that it has to do with killing several people that hurt children, God, I hope it wasn’t me who hurt the children”
