Silly Fears

Silly Fears

My grama used to talk so fondly of May Day.

She would speak so fondly of the days of her youth with May baskets, and games that the children played.

I started to tell her once that She was really celebrating Beltane but I didn't have the heart. She needed to hold on to those childhood memories and she was one of the people that were incapable of accepting that what she grew up understanding had a different origin then she thought.

There are just some people that need to live in a world where there is nothing that contradicts what they were taught.

That's why I have chosen my facebook friends so carefully this time. I want to share information but I don't want it to do harm. There are many people that are so afraid that learning about the origins of their beliefs challenge those beliefs.

My grama, as well as another friend of mine aren't, or weren't capable of understanding that the origin of the belief doesn't have to challenge their connection with their God. All it is, is knowledge.

To deny it is silly but there are some people that want so badly for their way to be the only true way and that it is the only explanation. These people are the ones that I leave behind. I have no desire to cause them turmoil. So I surround myself with open minded people that are secure enough in themselves and their beliefs that my posts don't cause them any pain.

My prime directive is the acquisition of knowledge, even if that knowledge destroys every preconceived notion that I have ever had.
