Our Enemy’s Children

Please don't take my lack of patriotism

as being disrespectful to my country

take it as an attempt

to humanize our enemy

take it as an attempt

to humanize their enemy in their eyes

Once we know the truth about our enemy

their hopes

their dreams

their love for their children

we help each other to see

that we are more than enemies

we become people

people that fear

people that love

people that hurt

people with hopes and dreams

people that have been deceived by the powers that be

on both sides of the issue

deceived by governments that understand

that being angry and starting a war

have little to do

with the safety of themselves

and of their own children

because the pawns will absorb the blows

a man dying in a trench

is a man

regardless of the uniform that he wares

his death brings pain and sadness

to his family

his children lose a father

just as an American soldier's child loses a father

What is war but greed, pain, and sadness
