My Books

I do something that is really silly.

I've done it for a long time.

I collect books

That, in and of itself, isn't silly.

The part that is silly is that I collect textbooks and other knowledge books. Usually at least 3/4 of my books are books about learning. That really isn't that silly either but I save them in case I'm ever stranded on a island all by myself so I can spend every day learning. Of course, the chances of having those books with me when I get stuck on the island are almost nonexistent.

I think that I continue to collect the books out of habit. I watched an episode of the Twilight Zone called Time Enough at Last and I always kind of thought that maybe someday I would have all of my books and society would collapse and I would have all of my books.

Silly? – Yes

I understand that

I had to give away hundreds of books in order to move here. After I got here I started expending my collection again. One of the cool things about working at the college was that they threw away old text books each year. I have books on many subjects. I have about 20 math books. There are some on basic math, algebra, trigonometry, and geometry. There are different levels for each. I have an older copy of a test bank and an answer book. I’ve held on to them without looking at them because I thought that I knew what they were. Today I was looking through my books because I need to get rid of some to make room for other things.

The bad thing that I found out today was that the test bank book and the answer book don’t go together. They are for the same edition but nothing matches up. The questions aren’t for the answers in the other book. I’ve wasted about 6 inches of bookshelf space for about 2 years.

The good news is that I have several instructor’s editions of each kind of math so I still have answers to problems if I want to learn. I’ve decided to thin my math books down to about 6.

I have half a book shelf of English books and all of them stay.

I’ve weeded out about a hundred books that I really didn’t have an interest in but I have several chemistry books, biology books, history books, psychology books, and many fiction books.

Some day I hope to have a pole barn with our own library in it.

Aside from our physical books we have hundreds of online books in several formats. We have books on most subjects.

I don’t get to study as often as I’d like to but I do spend quite a bit of time reading.

Now you know my book hoarding secret. I’m not ashamed, I’m going to keep collecting. I love my books. They are one of my favorite things in this world. Most of them have their own place on a shelf and they aren’t in the way. I’m just going to be a little more careful about what I collect so I only have books that interest me.

(None of the instructors editions are currently being used at the college. They are  older)
